Ready Set GO-als.

READY, SET, GO-als

Hey all,

I hope you are all doing well. As you know it is the holiday season and the end of semester is approaching fast. With all of the activities it may seem difficult to accomplish all of the assignments or projects you were planning on doing, but just remember....There's always hope. If you would like some encouragement I suggest a poem ,by an anonymous poet, Don't Quit.

Also, don't forget to make new years resolutions. There is always something you can do. For instance, you could make an effort to help others, study more, exercise, eat healthier, make new friends, etc.

So, I wish you all the best in the remainder of the semester
Including: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years!
Take Care,
Sharla

Its Almost Thanksgiving Break!!

Hey Everyone!! I hope everyone is getting as excited as I am for Thanksgiving Break that is soon approaching!! I'm especially excited because I actually get to go home over the break for three days!! During Fall Break we had basketball, so I haven't got to go home yet, and I am totally pumped to finally go home!

Basketball is officially started. We have played two games and are 1-1 on the season so far. This weekend we travel to Oklahoma for our third game and I really think we can up our record to 2-1!! We also have a game on Monday in Denver, Colorado and then we play Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas the next day. So pretty much I'm going to get to spend a lot of time in a van for the next few days, but I guess it gets me out of classes!!

I hope your school year is going fabulous!! Take care, and talk to you soon!!

HEY!!!!

Hey there everyone!
My name is Katie Olson and I am a junior here at Bethany College. I am a Biology/Pre-med major and also participated in softball my freshman and sophomore years. This year I am helping as a student coach.
Things are really coming together around campus right now. The apartments were finished about a month ago and upperclassmen, including myself, got to move in. I am enjoying the apartments thoroughly! They are also rebuilding and making advances on Nelson Science Building, which is awesome for us science geeks because we are getting all new labs.
Also starting on campus is basketball season. This is an exciting time of year because we are all still supporting the fall sports but also get to enjoy going to winter sports games. The men's basketball team started on Monday night with a scrimmage against Pratt Community College and won. Good start for a good season. The women played on Tuesday night and showed very good potential for this season as well.
Well, thats all I have for now but I will be chatting with you all again soon!
Later!!

JigSaw Puzzle.

Have you ever found yourself close to completing a puzzle just to find out that you are missing a piece?

As you know last week was spirit week here on campus. We kicked off the week with crazy hair/sock day followed by cowboy/Indian day then twin day followed by PJ day and finally neon day.

It seemed as if many people forgot the crazy hair/sock day, including myself.

The next day was cowboy/Indian day. I found myself wearing my cowgirl attire along with a seldom few.

Wednesday was twin day. I had this day all figured out. Me and my friend were going to be twins, all decked out in crazy stuff. But, needless to say that missing puzzle piece would have me in a blunder....She didn't dress accordingly. My twin ditched me!

Following twin day was PJ day. Campus wasn't afraid to show their spirit on this day. Everyone dressed for the occasion.

Finally there was NEON day. Surprisingly campus was full of many bright colors, myself included.

Even though I faced that frustrating feeling of that missing puzzle piece on Wednesday, spirit week was still a blast. I believe that our true colors were shown on Saturday's game when our football boys WON!!!!
Congradualtions boys!!!!
Have a great week! I'll be writing again soon.

It's Already October!!

Soo..I can't believe that October is already here! It's amazing how time flies by!
October to me means the official start of basketball practice. We have been doing our pre-season workouts since August and I am definately ready to get to start actual practice on the 15th!! Our first game is towards the beginning of November and I am super excited to get this year rolling!!

Classes are going pretty good! I'm an accounting/finance major..so the classes aren't the most inspirational ones to sit through..but they're still good ones!!

This week is a pretty busy and exciting week here at Bethany!! Homecoming is on Saturday so we have lots of fun festivities to participate in!! There are different dress up days and today is Crazy hair and sock day..so campus looks a little crazier than usual!! Also, Friday is our ANNUAL Talent show!! The talent show is an awesome time, and i'm really excited to see everyones "talents" this year!!

I hope everyones school year is going Fabulous!! Take care and talk to you soon!!

A New Lifestyle

Hey everyone,
How do I explain the first weeks of my college life, especially at Bethany? Well to sum it all up, its been a little bit of everything. It has been frustrating, exciting, busy, relaxing, and just altogether great. I say busy and relaxing because it just is. I always have stuff to do, but I just feel as if I can relax here. The environment here is as if I never left home, it just changed place and size. Everyone here is so inviting and nice, and that isn't necessarily what I am used to. I came from a very populated region of Texas, the Fort Worth area to be exact, and it just isn't very inviting until you have lived there for a while. But the fact that this place became home, and I accepted it as such, on the first day of orientation is just amazing to me. I just love it here.

But now that I have started writing I guess I can introduce myself. My name is Scott James , I am a Music Education (instrumental) major, and I am on the men's soccer team. As I have already said I come from Burleson, Texas ( about 15 minutes south of Ft. Worth) and my graduating class at Burleson High School was about 100 people short of the entire school body here at Bethany. Now I thought that having such a small amount of students would be hard for me, because I am the kind of person that loves to be around people all the time, and I always have to be the center of attention. But I have learned that I like this much more than at a big school. One thing I love about it is that when you meet people here, you actually meet them. In the big schools you "meet" someone, you don't ever really get to know them. But here people actually care about you and what you are in to and so on and so forth. And just having that feeling that people actually care is enough to get me hooked here at Bethany.

One thing I am very greatful for, still dealing with the size of the student body, is the class size. My biggest class has less than 20 people in it (not including band), and so there is a lot of one on one time with the teachers. And the teachers, also, care about how you do, so when you don't understand something in a class, they will take time out of their schedule just to help you get there.

The one thing I have had a problem with the small size though is names. Coming from a big town, I am used to meeting someone once and never seeing them again. So whenever they get to their name, I just kind of blank out. Now I know that this is extremely not good of me, but it was just how it was. But now when I meet someone, I have to actually try and remember names, because I know that in not to long of a time I am going to be talking to them again. So this isn't really a problem, because I have decided that I love knowing who someone is, but it is just a bad hadit that I am getting rid of.

For now, I love life at Bethany College. And keep up that Bethany Pride.

Go Swedes!!

Lets get familiar

Hello, Hola, Hejsan, Shalom, Howdy

Which everway you prefer to say HEY.....Just remeber it might make someone's day.

I have always been taught that introducing yourself should include a nice firm hand shake, a friendly smile, and of course your name.

So, Hello my name is Sharla Stokes. (FIRM HAND SHAKE)(FRIENDLY SMILE)

I am a Freshman Psychology major here at Bethany and proud to say it. So far my experiences here at Bethany College have been eventful, overwhelming, fun, adventureous, and a bit nerve-racking. However, with all these different experiences I have came to realize that Bethany is the place for me. I say this because along with all of the other ways to describe my first few weeks at Bethany I seemed to forget the most important.....Comfortable.

My hometown is Concordia Kansas. Which is slightly bigger than Lindsborg, but still a small town. I think that Lindsborg is a wonderful place to live. All of the residence are extemely nice and you never have to question the intentions of others. I do however miss the convenience of a Wal-mart that is less than 15 minutes away. Those nights after the DG is closed and Kaps doesn't have what you are looking for not having a Wal-mart is a bit of a pain. But, not having a Wal-mart was a small price to pay for getting an education from a school that embraces new students and makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable.

There are many new things that I have experienced in my first month here. I have found it easy to misplace sleep, books, phone numbers, and study habits but, have found new friends, classes, jobs, and scenery. Hopefully, I can manage to find all of those things I have misplaced, sleep being the most important followed by study habits. So far all of the items I have found outway the items I have misplaced. Finding new friends is a large part to the College world and here at Bethany you do not have to search far for people that are willing to be your friends.

I hope you have become a bit more fimilar with me now that I am a bit more fimilar with Campus.

So, the best I can do is hope that I find those misplaced items and maybe some of you can help me with this search.....

See ya'll later.

Back in the Swing of Things Here at Bethany

Hey everyone! So we're in the second week of school here at Bethany College and everything is getting back into the normal routine. It was awesome to get back on campus and see all the new changes that were completed over the summer! Our new apartment style dorms are almost complete and the campus landscaping looks really beautiful!!

I hope all of your summers were fantastic and your starting to settle into school and of course starting to consider what school you will be attending next year! Lots of exciting things are going on here at Bethany and I hope we are one of, if not the TOP choice of colleges for you!

Well, I better go to class now, but I look forward to updating you throughout the year on the continuing activities that will be going on here at BETHANY COLLEGE!
GO SWEDES!!!

Good Start

One down, three to go. College isn’t so hard…yet. My freshman year was very interesting, very valuable, and very quick. It seems like I was just a scared freshman going to orientations and barely surviving through two-a-days, and now here we are at the end of the year. I find myself packing up all of my stuff and wondering where the year went. One thing I definitely do not have to wonder about is which direction I am headed in my life. I have gotten off to an awesome start here at Bethany College, and I couldn’t ask for more, the small town environment, friendly faculty and staff, good food, and the best admissions office this side of the Mississippi River suited me to a T. If a person can’t survive or even excel in this kind of atmosphere, then they need their vital signs checked because Bethany is designed to provide the essential information necessary to live a very productive life in today’s society. No matter what happens, my blood will always bleed a little blue and yellow, and I will always have a little bit of BC in my heart. I guess when I am sitting around wondering where the year has gone I can vouch that time actually does fly when you’re having fun. Finally, I would like to say that I owe a lot to the amazing people in the admissions office. Without them, I wouldn’t have had half the Bethany experience that I have had, and for that I am very thankful. That is all for his year folks, we have had a good run and I have enjoyed it.

Hello all. I hope this letter finds you well. I'm sorry I haven't written in such a long time, but in all honesty I've been putting off this blog because I don't know where to begin. I've searched and searched and I don't know how I can sum up three of the best years of my life in a couple paragraphs, but I finally decided that as my deadline approached I should at least give it a shot, so here goes.

I came to Bethany because I had family here. My brother was two years older than me and had previously chosen Bethany for his college career. But what kept me here wasn't my biological family, but the family I formed of friends, professors, faculty and staff. Through the last three years they've been the ones I've turned to when I needed a hug and my family was absent, and they're the ones I called when the excitement of my engagement and then being accepted into law school set in. They've made my life at Bethany bearable and enjoyable, and I know without having met them I wouldn't be the person I am today.

So to all of those who have helped me conquer all I set out to conquer, thank you. And to all that have held my hand along the way, I love you! As I take my final steps across Presser Hall stage tears will dwell in my eyes, but not in sadness. Rather, they will be for all the memories that I have of a wonderful place that I like to call "Dear Ole' Bethany"!I'll be headed off to law school and I know that I won't forget the people and memories that I've made here.

I hope that you too will keep in mind all the accomplishments, friends, and memories that you have formed throughout your last several years. Good luck with the rest of your life and I wish you the best of luck. I also hope that you'll consider what is now my Alma Mater as the place for you to begin the rest of your life.

Summer Fun!!

Hey Everyone!! So only two finals to go next week and then it's the end of my Freshman year here at Bethany!! This year has gone by super fast! I can't believe that I'm already packing up my room to get ready to move back home. It's amazing how much stuff I have crammed into my dorm room this past year!

My summer plans are not too exciting this year. I am going to go home to the BIG Kensington, KS, and help my dad on the farm again! I am excited to go home and get together with some of my high school friends again though!! It'll be fun catching up on how everyone's first year away at college was!!

I hope all of your school years are coming to an end and that you all are getting excited for next year!! Good luck with your decisions about your future education and hopefully I'll get to meet some of you at Bethany next year!!
GO SWEDES!!

Hello!!!

So this is the last official week of classes and finals are next week…which means I’m a week and a half away from being done with classes forever!! Well, until grad school that is. I have one final this Thursday, one next Wednesday and one take home final due next Tuesday… so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

As I’ve said before I’m doing my student teaching this fall and then I graduate in December. I am doing the first 10 weeks of my student teaching here in Lindsborg at Soderstrom elementary and the last 6 weeks are at Oakdale elementary for the special ed. portion of my practicum. But I interviewed yesterday for a cheerleading coach position at the Lindsborg Middle School and was offered the position, and I am way stoked about that! So that will definitely be something to look forward to.

Well as of right now it looks like my life is panning out pretty well.. I’ll let ya know when I make any other major decisions :) I’m looking forward to graduation in two weeks to have a big send off for my best friend who is going to law school next year!

I hope you all have a great summer, and that this blog has shown you how great Bethany has been for me, and could be for you as well! Bethany has definitely shown me a lot about myself over the past few years, and I hope that wherever your college decision takes you, you can have the same growing experience!

peace out,
mariah

Friday, May 2, 2008

Hi everyone...

So I just got word yesterday that I got the summer position I applied and interviewed for... and I'm so stoked!!! It's at a mental health center working with children with behavior and emotional disorders... so it will be great experience for me since I'm going into elementary education and special education. Also, since I last blogged I got my placement for student teaching! I will be at Soderstrom Elementary here in Lindsborg... which is amazing considering I won't have to drive out of town with these outrageous gas prices :) That part lasts 10 weeks and then I have the special ed. portion of my practicum for 6 weeks after. So things are going good on my end...
The softball and baseball teams are playing in our conference tourney this weekend. The boys won yesterday against Sterling... and the girls won 2 of their 3 games yesterday. So hopefully they will continue to do well! :)

GO SWEDES!

crazy kansas weather..

Wow, what month are we in again? It seems like April just got here, and now it’s half over. April and May are awesome months for a couple of reasons. First, it means school is almost over, and second, it means thunderstorm season. We have had a few good storms here recently, and it is times like this when you realize how diverse Bethany College actually is. At breakfast, some kids that are not used to Kansas weather told me stories of some recent stormy nights. Most of them woke up in the middle of the night thinking they were in a tornado, and wondering whether they should seek shelter. After hearing this, I laughed, mainly because I didn’t even wake up those nights at all. I guess I was used to the April and May shenanigans after growing up in central Kansas. I had no idea how windy it was, and how much hail and rain Lindsborg had actually gotten, but apparently lots of students did. While walking around campus and eating meals in the Caf, I hear many out of state students complaining about the Kansas weather. Well I would have to say that Kansas keeps it real when it comes to weather, because no one knows what the weather is going to be like until they walk outside and see for themselves.

Spring Fever....

Hey Everyone!!!

So I am totally ready for some summer weather and only 5 weeks till summer break!!!!
After Spring break things got pretty busy around campus. Last week was President Leonard's inauguration and campus was filled with activity!
My life has also been pretty busy the last couple of weeks. My classes are getting to the point where projects are due and the tests are getting harder :( But i guess that means school is almost out!! The women's basketball team has been playing open gym about 3 times a week and we have been doing our off-season lifting workouts, so overall my days are pretty packed, but i love keeping busy and it definately makes the weeks go by super fast! I can't believe that my freshman year of college is almost over, this year has gone by faster than i have ever imagined it would! Well i hope all is well with everyone and I can't wait to chat again!!

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

hola...

so spring break is over and its back to the old grind :( but only 6 more weeks of classes before summer! so that is a plus... also, this week we are celebrating our presidential inauguration, which i am on the committee for. we have planned a week full of different activities celebrating the different aspects of bethany; sports, arts, students, etc. yesterday james bradley spoke on campus, who is a new york times number one best selling author. he has written flags of our fathers and flyboys, which both became major movies directed by clint eastwood. his father was one of the men featured in the famous photograph of the soldiers raising the american flag on iwo jima. both at the q&a session and the evening presentation he discussed what he has learned about this event by contacting veterans and historians.

but that was just one of the events planned for this week! on friday there is a toga party sponsored by the school, a root beer social, and we are bringing in equipment for a "make your own video" event, which i'm very excited for :) then on saturday is the actual inauguration ceremony, a silent auction, and a formal dinner and ball.

needless to say this week is crazy on campus, but it will definitely be a good time!

did you say it's almost SPRING BREAK

Well, it's almost been a full 7 weeks since I've been back from Christmas break, and time has flown by. I'm gearing up for semester tests and then it's time for SPRING BREAK -- OH YA!!! Bethany baseball and softball teams are beginning their seasons, and the outdoor track team has finally gotten some nice days to start their season. Campus is looking better each day, and everyone is anticipating the great changes to the weight room and football field.
Hope you can enjoy some of the nice weather outside and I will talk with you later....

crazy schedule, finishing up classes, practicum hours....getting into LAW SCHOOL = priceless

Hello all! Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written. But I do at least have some good news—I got accepted to two law schools so far—Creighton University (Omaha, NE) and Washburn University (Topeka, KS). Needless to say it was quite a relief. This semester has started out being extremely crazy, because I’m graduating in 3 years instead of 4 I’m trying to finish up some last minute classes while doing my practicum. A practicum is basically an internship where you spend 40 hours a week in your selective field. Right now I’m working in the Saline County Attorney’s Office in Salina and also with the Lindsborg City Prosecutor. While doing these two jobs I spend a majority of my time in the courtroom which I’ve come to learn I really enjoy. Knowing that I probably want to end up spending time in the courtroom has help direct me to the type of law I want to study. I enjoy both jobs a lot and it gives me a hands on experience that I probably couldn’t get anywhere else. Another positive side is allowing me to make connections with people in the legal field that I may not have had a chance to otherwise. Other than that I’m anxiously anticipating graduation not because I’m ready to leave, I would stay forever if given the chance, just because that I’m anxious to begin the next step of my life. But I hope this note finds you well and that you’re having a wonderful end of winter and a great start to your spring!

A New Edition to : THE BLOG!

Hi Everyone!! My name is Claire Cole and I am freshman here at Bethany College. I am the new addition to the Blogger's page for BC! I grew up on a farm about five miles outside Kensington, KS which is located in the North Central part of the state! I just recently started working in the Admissions Office on campus and I really like it!! I am currently majoring in Business, either Accounting or Finance, I haven't quite decided which one yet! I also am part of the Women's Basketball Team! GO SWEDES! I have found that college life is really busy, but also really fun! I have also learned that the more you get involved in on Campus, the more fun you have! I know you guys are probably looking at several colleges right now and are wondering what Bethany has to offer you. What drew me here was first off the people! Everyone at Bethany is super nice and you always see a friend on campus!! Another pro about Bethany is the small class sizes. It really makes the classroom comfortable and makes for a good learning environment! I look forward to keeping all of you updated on what's happening on campus!

guess what Friday is.....

So today is Wednesday and guess what Friday is... my 21st birthday!! YAY! I think my friends are plannin' a little somethin' for me and i am very excited for this weekend!

Classes are going well, just staying really busy as always. I have my first big test in School Law next week, which i am completely dreading, but hopefully i live through that one! I've done all the assigned readings, which every college student does of course, so I'm thinkin' i should be alright.

Yesterday i met with a representative from a study abroad program who came on campus. I'm trying to figure out my life after Bethany, and I'm considering doing a teaching abroad program for a year or so. They have places you can go teach English in Japan, China, and Slovakia.. crazy huh! It sounds like a great opportunity to me, though, and i think it would be a wonderful experience. I'll keep you posted on any big decisions i make though :) Hope everyone has a fabulous week! Cheers!

first, second and finally.....

I have been in school for four days this second semester, and I have already realized a few reasons that make Bethany a great college. First of all, when you raise your hand on the first day of class to answer a question and the professor already knows your name, you automatically feel comfortable in that class. Secondly, changing your major and taking classes you really enjoy is a very easy and rewarding process. Finally, this semester I have actually realized that I do not have to hang out in my room all day, instead, I can be polishing up my amazing ping-pong skills in the pit...oh yea!!!!!!

My life as I know it...

Well everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve updated you on things here at Bethany. Interterm is over now and its back to the grindstone with spring semester starting next Tuesday. I have to say that this year’s interterm was definitely my favorite because for my class this year I got to spend five days in Washington D.C.! It was AMAZING!! I’d never been before this trip so it was a great experience to see all the sights and take tours that not everybody gets to take, such as the Pentagon. If you’ve never been to D.C. I recommend that you venture that way sometime. There is so much history there that it is absolutely remarkable. Just another great experience that has been afforded to me thanks to BC! Well I’ve finally finished applying to law schools and am now anxiously waiting to see if I get in. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and I get more nervous by the day. Wedding plans are quickly coming together as we have set a date for September 13, 2008. On a sadder note though today is my last day working in the Bethany Admissions office, I’m leaving to start my practicum on Monday. This is quite a turning point in my life, I’ve worked in this office for the last three years and I’m deeply saddened by the thought that I won’t get to see all these wonderful people everyday. However, I’ll always remember them as part of my BC family!!

Good luck on starting a new semester,
Sammie

interterm...

Well interterm is coming to a close and spring semester starts next Tuesday! I’m not gonna lie, I’m kind of sad about that because interterm is always fun and most people only take one class, so needless to say I’m going to miss the down time! I’m taking 17 hours this semester, all 300 level courses, but it’s my last semester of classes before I student teach and graduate!!! YAY! When I do leave Bethany, though, I’ll be sad to go because I have loved it here throughout the past three years. My advice for any incoming freshman is to get involved. See what sports, clubs, and activities Bethany has to offer and choose which ones you think you would enjoy. Building connections and friendships is what will make your Bethany experience unique.
